While Remembrance Day (or Armistice Day or Veteran's Day) is called something different in every country, we spent the day on 11th November remembering those who have died in the service of their country. While the concept can be difficult for younger students to comprehend, teaching about Remembrance Day in the classroom is an essential part of any classroom's history curriculum. Today, I'm sharing some of my favourite ways to commemorate Remembrance Day in the classroom.

1. Poppy Writing Activities | Mrs. Strawberry

This cute poppy foldable is a perfect and unique way to display your students’ writing for Remembrance Day, Veteran’s Day or Armistice Day. In my classroom, students love to colour in the poppy design to accompany their writing.

2. Remembrance Day SMART Notebook Resource by Learning Resources For All

This is a SMART notebook file that forms a complete lesson about Remembrance Day. This was made in Australia so it has a slight Australian perspective but it can easily be used in any country that observes Remembrance Day. The file includes links to a video, book, jigsaws, and craft activity to complete at the end of the lesson. This was originally designed for special education but can easily be used for most ages or ability levels.

This little flip book is great as a way to introduce Remembrance Day to younger students. It helps students understand what it is, when it is commemorated, why it is commemorated, who commemorates it and how it is typically commemorated in Australia.
